Bahrain Suspends Travel to Iraq, Iran Amid Regional Tensions
According to an official statement, authorities said the measure was taken in response to the continuing security challenges arising from recent regional developments. The statement noted: "Due to the continued tense security situation resulting from the repercussions of the sinful Iranian aggression, and in order to safeguard national security and the safety of all citizens, the Ministry of Interior announces the decision to ban citizens from traveling" to Iraq and Iran.
Officials indicated that the restriction will remain effective "until further notice." The statement also warned that legal and administrative measures would be taken against "violators" who fail to comply with the directive.
Regional tensions have remained elevated following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28. In response, Tehran launched attacks aimed at Israel and several US-aligned countries in the Gulf region, while also closing the Strait of Hormuz.
Although a ceasefire was reached on April 8 through mediation efforts by Pakistan, negotiations that followed in Islamabad did not lead to a comprehensive or permanent settlement.
Since then, diplomatic contacts have continued, with both sides exchanging various proposals and responses in an attempt to restart direct negotiations and move toward a resolution of the conflict.
